VINTON, Iowa (Aug. 4, 2024) – A pair of drivers made their first visits to victory lane Sunday night at Benton County Speedway.
David Stremme and Brett Thomas earned the first Bullring wins of their careers as 95 race teams were on-hand to do battle at the Benton County Fairgrounds.
Stremme, who started 10th in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds presented by Wright Way Trailers, worked through traffic while Jesse Belez paced the field throughout much of the 20-lapper.
Just past midway, Stremme positioned himself to challenge for the lead and swept past the leader to assume command on his way to victory. Tanner Black, who started alongside Stremme in the fifth row, chased the leader through the field to earn runner-up honors. Troy Cordes, who started 12th, finished third ahead of points leader Ben Chapman.
Thomas wasted little time making his way to the front in the 15-lapper for Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. From the second row, Thomas immediately raced his way to the front leaving the field to battle for position behind him.
Thomas maintained a lead of one second or more throughout the event to race to the milestone win. Points leader Tony Olson came home second ahead of Rayce Mullen and Brandon Tharp.
The PRO Late Model Tour made a stop at The Bullring on Sunday. In that 30-lapper, Dylan Thornton dominated the 20-car field to score the victory by nearly half a lap ahead of his nearest competitors. Logan Duffy held off a charging Matt Ryan for second. Bobby Hansen ran fourth.
Kaden Reynolds raced to his sixth win of the year in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars presented by Christie Door Company.
Scooter Dulin led throughout the first half of that 15-lapper while Norman Chesmore gave chase. Meantime, Reynolds worked the high side into contention and then used the low groove to race his way to the front en route to victory. Chesmore, points leader John Oliver Jr. and Braden Richards completed the top four.
Dalton Weepie earned his first win of the season and the third of his career in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks presented by iHeart Radio.
Weepie, who started sixth, remained content to race the high side of the speedway while Billy Stanford and Kale Hemsley tussled for the lead.
Following a late restart, Weepie raced the low side past the lead pair on his way to the win. Hemsley, Justin Stander and points leader Joren Fisher rounded out the top four.
Lukas Rick motored to his third win of the year in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts. From the fifth row, Rick raced through the pack while pole-sitter Jeremy Williams held the top spot.
At midway, Rick, Robert Rundle and Cristian Grady engaged in an entertaining battle for second right behind the leader until caution slowed action late. On the restart, Rick raced his way around Williams on his way to victory. Williams, Rundle and Grady chased Rick to the checkers.
